You may have noticed that the algorithm list looks different from what you are used to. Some names have changed. Some algorithms have been merged. New ones have appeared, and all of this is intentional.
Q: Why does the algorithm list look different from the Specular Tempus?
The Solis Ventus is a new platform built upon identical ideas from the Specular Tempus. The algorithm structure has been reorganised. Some algorithms have been merged, some have been renamed, and several new ones have been added.
Q: Where can I find the Spatium sound on the Solis Ventus?
Select the Spatium algorithm. To get the classic open character, set Voice Intensity to 0 and Tail Shape to Natural. If you want the harmonic layer similar to the Voices sound from the Specular Tempus, increase Voice Intensity and adjust Tail Shape to taste.
Q: What about Shimmer?
The Shimmer algorithm on the Solis Ventus combines both Shimmer and Anti-shimmer from the Specular Tempus into one algorithm. It also adds more voicing options. To get the classic shimmer, set one voice to +1 Octave. For anti-shimmer, set it to -1 Octave. You have two voice slots, so you can blend both or use other interval settings beyond octaves.
Q: How do Chamber and Aether relate to Room and Nuance?
Chamber is rooted in the Room algorithm, which took inspiration from real physical spaces. Aether is rooted in Nuance. Both Chamber and Aether will sound similar to their predecessors, but they have their own distinct character.
Q: Is Marble based on anything from the Specular Tempus?
No. Marble is a new algorithm original to the Solis Ventus.
Q: What are the Hybrid algorithms in the reverb section?
+Analog Delay, +Digital Delay, and +Echoes are the three Hybrid algorithms. The + sign indicates parallel routing. The reverb component in all three is Spatium. The delay runs alongside the reverb, not through it. What changes between them is the delay type that accompanies the reverb.
Q: Which delay algorithms kept their names?
Analog, Tape, Ambiental, and Filter all kept their names. There should be no surprises with these. Same names + finer adjustments.
Q: What happened to Spectral and MultiTap 3?
Spectral from the Specular Tempus is now represented as Modulated on the Solis Ventus. MultiTap 3 is now represented as Triple Heads. With Triple Heads, you can adjust the Taps Pattern and the volume taper of each tap.
Q: Did MultiTap 4 make it over?
No. MultiTap 4 did not make it to the Solis Ventus. Triple Heads remains the only multi-head delay representative.
Q: How do I get Digital and Echoes sounds?
Both Digital and Echoes can be built using only the Digital algorithm on the Solis Ventus. The key parameters are Tone and Smear. A darker Tone setting with a higher Smear setting will produce qualities similar to the Echoes delay tails.
Q: How do the Dual algorithms work?
On the Specular Tempus, Dual Dotted and Dual Gold were two digital delays in series with linked time ratios. The Solis Ventus offers three Dual algorithms: Dual (Digital/Analog), Dual (Digital/Digital), and Dual (Digital/Pitch). The Time Ratio parameter provides six different ratios, including dotted eighth and golden ratio. This allows you to recreate the old dual delays and expand on them with more routing flexibility.
Q: What about the Pitch part in Dual (Digital/Pitch)?
The Pitch component takes inspiration from the Transposer on the Specular Tempus. If you dial the digital mix down to 0, you get the original transposed delay effect with fully controllable intervals.
Q: What happened to the Dynamic delay algorithms?
The Specular Tempus had Dynamic Digital, Dynamic Analog, and Dynamic Echo. The Solis Ventus introduces a standalone dynamics engine that can apply ducking, gating, or other dynamics effects to any algorithm. This makes the old dynamic delay algorithms redundant. You can now apply dynamics to whatever delay you are using.
Q: What are the Hybrid algorithms in the delay section?
Diffuse Digital, Diffuse Analog, and Diffuse Echo are the delay-side Hybrid algorithms. These use series routing. The delay comes first, then reverb is applied only to the delay tails. The dry signal never sees the reverb. The reverb shaping the tails is Spatium.
Q: What is the Diffusive algorithm?
The Diffusive algorithm consolidates all six Hybrid variations into one algorithm. This includes the three parallel variations (+Analog, +Digital, +Echoes) and the three series variations (Diffuse Digital, Diffuse Analog, Diffuse Echo).
Q: How do I control the Diffusive algorithm?
Three key parameters let you dial in the variation you want:
Higher tone values produce the clearer, more pristine character of the digital variants. Lower tone values give you the warmer, darker texture of the analog variants. Routing selects parallel or series.
In all cases, the reverb component remains Spatium. You are not switching reverb types. You are adjusting how Spatium interacts with the delay and the routing path.
Q: What new delay algorithms were added?
The Solis Ventus introduces Reverse, Lo-Fi, Ping-Pong, and Android. These did not originate from the Specular Tempus.
Q: Are there any algorithms that didn't make it over?
Yes. On the delay side, MultiTap 4 and Formant did not make the transition. However, the overall algorithm bank has been expanded with new additions, so the total range of sounds has grown.
